About 140 players from the CQ Capras’ male squads were put through their paces at an early-morning training session at Rockhampton’s Kettle Park on Saturday.
It was the first time the four squads - under-16 (Cyril Connell Challenge), under-18 (Mal Meninga Cup), under-21 (Hastings Deering Colts) and senior men (Hostplus Cup) - had trained together this pre-season.
Head coach Lionel Harbin said he felt it was important to get the groups together, and it was a great opportunity for the younger players to learn from their senior and more experienced counterparts.
Harbin’s Hostplus Cup squad is now into its fourth week of pre-season training.
They have been training four days a week and will continue to do that until they enjoy a two-week break over Christmas.
They will be back on the paddock on January 3, with Harbin saying they would need “to hit the ground running” as they prepared for their first trial game against the Dolphins at Gladstone’s Marley Brown Oval on February 4.
Harbin said he was pleased with what he had seen so far from his players.
“The effort and the attitude they’re turning up with each week has been exceptional,” he said.
“There’s been some tough days with the conditions, especially the heat, but they have turned up and just go on with it.”
