Capras coach Todd Hansen names U17 boys captains, final squad for 2025

Coach Todd Hansen said it was hard work settling on the make-up of his squad for this season’s Cyril Connell Cup. See who made it and who will lead the under-17 boys outfit.

Coach Todd Hansen has named his 34-player squad for the 2025 Cyril Connell Cup season.

Lachlan Anderson ticked all the right boxes for coach Todd Hansen when deciding who would lead the CQ Capras under-17 boys this season.

The announcement of the hardworking lock as captain was well-received by the squad, as was the selection of hooker Jay Marsh as his deputy.

Hansen said the two players were highly regarded by teammates, had talent to burn and led by their actions.

Jay Marsh and Lachlan Anderson play their schoolboys footy with St Brendan’s College.

They head up what Hansen described as a “really balanced” 34-member squad.

“Deciding on the 34 was really hard,” he said.

“It did come down to that last trial game; which is how you want it to be.

“It threw up a few surprises for us; a few boys really stood up and got themselves included.”

Hansen has named 20 players for the Round 1 clash against the Townsville Blackhawks and will decide on Thursday on the 17 who will play.

Coach Todd Hansen has decided on his final squad, which includes front rower Parker Gallagher.

The Capras four underage teams were meant to travel to Townsville for Saturday’s season openers but due to the unrelenting rain up north will now play at Yeppoon’s Webb Park.

Hansen said he was looking forward to the clash, which he knows will be a tough one.

“Townsville are always going to be strong, they’ve won the comp the last two years,” he said.

“It will be a hard test but we’ll get through this game and see where we’re at.

“The key messages for the boys will be to stick to our systems and compete on everything.”
