A 25-year-old father-of-two who was killed in a motorcycle crash near Rockhampton has been remembered by his sister as being a “fighter from a very young age” who had a “beautiful sense of humour”.

Jacob McCasker suffered critical injuries from the accident on the Bruce Highway, 1km south of Rockhampton, about 10.30pm on March 25, 2024.

Sadly, Jacob left behind two children, aged three and one-and-a-half.

Jacob’s sister Beck McCasker, who lives in Brisbane and is one of five of his siblings, said her brother “was always a very happy little kid”.

“He was incredibly cheeky,” she said.

“He had a beautiful sense of humour.

“He was very family-oriented, and that included friends as well.

“His friends became his family and they were very well loved.”

Beck said Jacob was born premature and described him as a fighter.

“He was a fighter from a very young age,” she said.

Beck said she and her brother had separated when he was about two or three years old but had reconnected about five or six years ago.

She said they would talk at least once a week.

“It was strange to not hear from him for about a week,” Beck said.

“He would always check in and see how things are going and vice versa.”

Beck said it was not even a week before the fatal accident that he messaged her saying he had just got a new job driving trucks out at the mines.

She said she wanted to thank the first responders and people who stopped to try and help her brother at the scene of the accident.

“According to police reports, there were two people who stopped and tried to assist him and got medical assistance,” Beck said.

“We understand they didn’t have to stop but they did and they tried, regardless of the outcome, and we appreciate that.

“Not everybody would stop.”

She said she also wanted to thank the Rockhampton Crash Investigation Unit.

“I really appreciated making sure communication was still flowing,” she said.

A funeral was held for Jacob for close family on April 10 at Tucker and Nankivell on Alma St, Rockhampton.

A memorial for his friends was also held on April 13 at Kershaw Gardens.
