A number of Central Queensland tourism venues, events and organisations have had their successes recognised, taking out gongs at the Queensland Tourism Awards.

Rockynats, 1770 Larc Tours and the Outback Queensland Masters were just some of Central Queensland’s tourism events and operators to take out awards on Queensland Tourism’s night of nights on Friday.

Also taking out two awards was Rockhampton’s Empire Apartments, with Agnes Water/1770 Visitor Information Centre also recognised.

Rockhampton Regional Council was also recognised for its Explore Rockhampton campaign.

Only in its second year, Rockynats 02 was a record breaker.

The event saw 1468 cars and motorbikes hit the streets and a whopping 52,060 people attend the multiple events across the three days.

The awards were held at the Gold Coast, celebrating a “bounce back” year for tourism in the sunshine state.

Central Queensland’s award-winning tourism operators were among the 1000 recognised from around Queensland.

Queensland also led the charge nationally, recording its highest ever intrastate visitor rate with a 21.5 per cent increase totalling $12.4 billion.

Queensland Tourism Industry Council CEO Brett Fraser said it was special to be able to celebrate the Queensland tourism industry after a “tumultuous” few years for the sector.

“In true Queenslander spirit, we are embracing the difficulties we face together by reconnecting and discovering places in our own backyard, as together we are drawn to holidays within our home state,” he said.

“The past two years have redefined how people live, work and travel, and the intrastate tourism we are experiencing is directly correlated to this.

“But this exponential growth doesn’t come without major challenges for our operators who continue to battle with a lack of workforce.”
