Rockhampton residents are concerned stray dogs are responsible for multiple attacks in the Allenstown/The Range suburbs after a woman was set upon this week.

Rockhampton Regional Council CEO Evan Pardon confirmed the authority was investigating a dog attack which happened on Denham Street on Wednesday morning.

Mr Pardon could not provide any further details about the attack saying: “We are unable to provide comment while investigations are underway.

“Should anyone have information about the attack, please contact council’s Customer Service Centre on 4932 9000.”

Resident Tash Black provided an insight into Wednesday morning’s incident on social media, saying: “I was just informed by a council worker this morning that a lady who had been walking around 6.30am this morning, had been attacked by 2 X dogs out the front of my house...”

Ms Black went on to explain the dogs were last seen “wandering on Denham Street Extended (The Range)”.

She said the description given to the council was two staff-cross dogs, dark in colour, and one of the animals only had one eye.

“Firstly I am saddened and sickened to hear this news, and I am horrified to know that I had no idea that this had happened, and therefore wasn’t able to intervene or help out,” Ms Black said.

“I am so sorry and feel so helpless.

“I sincerely hope this person is ok and I will certainly keep my eyes open for the two dogs involved.”

Ms Black urged anyone who saw the dogs not to approach them and to contact the council.

“They are actively out searching for these dogs due to the severe nature of the attack,” Ms Black said.

Resident Madeleine Perret said on social media her son was almost attacked by two dogs of that description on Tuesday afternoon on his way home from school.

“He said they chased him a fair way up Davis St and he only just escaped them because he was on his bike!” Ms Perret said.

Resident Fiona Coleman asked if one of the dogs was black because “there’s a black dog that’s either let out every day or gets out every day?”

“It’s Pennycuick Street opposite Bowen Terrace off Denham Street Extended,” Ms Coleman said.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said QAS did not have any record of being called to Denham Street for either a dog attack or a bite on Wednesday morning.

“So it’s very likely we weren’t called if that’s the case,” she said.

“It could have been that the patient/s have been okay to take themselves to hospital for care (if required).”
