Rockhampton police investigate Norman Gardens, Berserker shootings

Rockhampton detectives are conducting investigations after frightening shooting incidents at two suburban homes in different suburbs on Wednesday. HERE’S WHAT WE KNOW.

Berserker house shooting

Rockhampton police are investigating whether two shooting incidents are linked after separate suburban homes had shots fired at them on Wednesday.

About 6.30am three men arrived at a home on Armstrong Street in Berserker armed with, what police believe to be, two long firearms and a handgun.

Detective Inspector Darrin Shadlow said multiple shots were fired into the property, where a mum and her two children were home at the time; shots were also fired into a car parked into the yard.

“They then left the area in a small black Fiat vehicle, that had been reported stolen, that vehicle had subsequently been located in Birkbeck Drive in Parkhurst burnt out,” he said.

At 6pm the same day, two men broke into a home at Brazil Street in Norman Gardens armed with a gun.

He said the men involved in the Armstrong Street incident were fully covered from head to toe, and the two men involved in the Brazil Street incident were wearing shorts and dark hoodies.

Police will allege one of the occupants of the home was assaulted and an item was stolen, before a shot was fired at the home as the offenders left in a silver sedan.

Thankfully no one was hurt as a result of the discharged guns.

Detective Inspector Shadlow said the offenders were “still at large” and police were looking into whether both incidents were linked.

“It would be a fair coincidence for two of these incidents to happen in the one day,” he said.

He said police were also investigating whether both shootings were premeditated.

“We do not believe general members of the public have anything to fear at this stage, it is obviously very concerning for police that people are running around with firearms and discharging them into residences,” he said.

“Rest assured we are investigating it and we’re treating it as an extremely high priority.”

He said reports of stinger devices being deployed on Wednesday night in Musgrave Street were in relation to an unrelated matter.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
