HARD work and dedication has finally paid off for Rockhampton's Kev Brown after he was crowned Sausage King over the weekend.
The local butcher headed to Mackay over the weekend with snags in tow to compete in the Australian Meat Industry Council's Queensland Sausage King and Best Butchers' Burger competition.
With the competition open to all butchers throughout Central Queensland, Kev was pitted against butchers from Tannum Sands in the south to Mackay in the north and all the way out west to Alpha.
But Kev Brown's Butchery came out on top with the man behind the business snagging three big sausage awards including first for his traditional pork sausages, silver for his continental sausages and bronze for his gourmet lamb sausages.
With three new titles to his name, Kev's next step will be the state finals of the competition which will be held during the Ekka in Brisbane throughout August.
And with 28 years experience in the butchering business under his belt it's no surprise he went through to the finals.
"It's been a labour of love," Kev explained when talking about his career choice.
"I have always been a big believer in the saying 'people don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it."
Kev said he was extremely passionate about quality produce when it came to his butchery.
"(I) get enjoyment from knowing I'm providing our community with a good product," he said.
"I haven't increased the size of my family business which means over the years I have got to know many of my customers by name and can maintain a high level of service."
Kev said his success all came down to old fashioned hard work and determination.
"If you have the passion and don't mind hard work, then success will follow," he said.
