Rockhampton council sells abandoned vehicles at auction

Four abandoned vehicles impounded by Rockhampton Regional Council were sold at a public online auction by Tomkins at the weekend. See how much they went for.

Abandoned vehicles were sold at a Tomkins Auction over the weekend on behalf of Rockhampton Regional Council, raking in a combined $5025.

The auction was held online from Friday, June 2 and ended on Tuesday, June 6.

The 2008 Fiat Ducato van.

A 2008 Fiat Ducato Van, which had timber boarded around the walls and rubbish inside, sold for $3250 with 59 bids.

The abandoned 2007 black BMW Series 3 sedan.

A 2007 black BMW 3 Series sedan sold for a final price of $1050 after 38 bids.

The 2002 Holden Commodore sedan, pictured with the front bumper missing and rubbish inside.

A 2022 Holden Commodore sedan, pictured with a lot of junk and rubbish inside and a front bumper missing, sold for $325 with 19 bids.

Lastly, a 2002 white Holden Commodore ute, with a smashed windscreen, a black bonnet with spray painted graffiti spelling “dont f---ing touch” and the tray full of tyres and junk, sold for $400 from 17 bids.

The abandoned vehicles were sold unregistered and in their current condition with all goods and equipment included in the sale.

In 2018, Rockhampton Regional Council reported it spent on average $330 per vehicle to have them towed, impounded and sold at auction.

Abandoned vehicles are removed as they can encourage vandalism, endanger the environment, impede traffic flow and also become unsightly to the public.

Attempts are made to contact the owner of the abandoned vehicle and if unsuccessful, council will impound it and it is then stored in a secure facility for one month.

If the vehicle remains unclaimed it will be auctioned and proceeds of the sale are used to pay council costs.
