A number of brand-new businesses are opening their doors in a prominent spot on one of Rockhampton’s main streets.
Among them is @Pilates, a 24/7 virtual reformer pilates studio due to open at the end of October and offering a “virtual library” of classes with the guidance of onsite staff.
Customers are given headphones at the studio where they can choose their workout from a selection of videos for them to follow.
The George St studio will be the second @Pilates studio for the region with the first franchise store having already opened in James St, Yeppoon in June.
Lauren Morley, who is the owner and director of the new Rockhampton studio, said it would also be the second in Queensland.
“We (@pilates) are the first of its kind in Australia, we’re making reformer pilates more accessible and affordable for everyone,” she said.
“The standout point of why we’re different is you do have that 24/7 accessibility, the way our studio works is you have your own app and book-in for a timeslot.
“We’ve got an exercise library in there, so you’re not doing the same exercise as other people, which I find makes you a bit more comfortable because you’re not comparing yourself to other skill levels or what other people are doing.”
Mrs Morley said she wanted to open the studio after being a member of the @Pilates studio in Yeppoon.
“It made me realise how dynamic and useful pilates is, not just for losing weight or gains that way, it’s also very good for your posture,” she said.
“There’s a lot of core involved and that’s the backbone to your spine so they work hand-in-hand.
“You can go to the gym and lift weights and see the change that way and but you feel the effects of how hard it is on your body, whereas reformer, as much as it is gentle, it activates so many muscles and it’s slower paced.”
@Pilates Rockhampton is expected to open on October 21.
Popular western clothing brand Ringers Western will also be opening a shop front at the 111 George St shopping complex on the corner of George and Fitzroy Streets.
The brand is currently stocked at multiple businesses across Central Queensland with the Ringers Western mobile store truck also making regular visits to the beef capital.
Ringers Western stocks a range of western workwear and fashion including shirts, hats, boots, jeans, dress shirts and more.
Lankan Kottu Hut, a Sri Lankan takeaway restaurant, also recently opened at the complex.
It’s been a busy few months for new businesses in Rockhampton.
Another popular clothing brand, RM Williams, recently moved into Stockland Rockhampton.
Men’s clothing store Johnny Bigg will also be opening in the centre soon in the old Surf, Dive ‘n’ Ski spot near JB Hi-Fi.
Surf Dive ‘n’ Ski moved to a new location in the centre which was formerly occupied by Loot.
Construction has also begun on the Guzman Y Gomez and Banjo’s Bakery drive-thrus at the old Project Mex site across from the 111 George St complex.
Both of the buildings are being constructed by Hutchinson Builders.
Plans were also recently lodged for Oporto and Gloria Jean’s drive-thrus to be built on George St across from Browne Park.
