Relaxing while gazing at uninterrupted views of the ocean, Keppel Bay Islands and the coastline is fantasy for many locals and tourists.
Two Capricorn Coast hotel managers have captured that dream and added it to their portfolio for “just over $1 million”, snapping up the Mediterranean-style accommodation, Villa Mar Colina.
Television celebrities and a number of VIPs have sought out the popular villas for their visits.
Andrea and Will Stokje, who are in a partnership and manage Oshen Apartments Yeppoon, recently purchased the accommodation, located just across the road on Adelaide St, Yeppoon.
It offers one, two and three-bedroom villas.
Mr Stokje said the sale of Villa Mar Colina settled in July for “just over $1 million”.
Villa Mar Colina’s previous managers, Gavan, and Glenys Hurley, who took over the business back in 2007, retired following the sale of the property, setting their sights on travelling before settling back in Victoria to enjoy family and grandchildren.
Mr Stokje said they saw the purchase as a “good opportunity to expand our let pool”.
“It was in discussion for about six months before we put in an offer on the property,” he said.
The tourism stalwarts, previously from Noosa, moved to Yeppoon in 2019 to take over as owners and managers of Oshen on Hill St.
“It didn’t take long for Will and I to become ingrained in this wonderful destination, and quickly discovered the true potential of Yeppoon and the Southern Great Barrier Reef,” Ms Stokje said.
“We have worked hard for many years, ensuring that we deliver a high standard product for visitors at Oshen Yeppoon.
“When the opportunity to purchase Villa Mar Colina was presented, we decided that it was the right time to further invest in the community we love.”
Ms Stokje said they planned to keep Villa Mar Colina’s charm, “tweaking things a little bit to just have that nicer feel in the rooms”.
She said they had received very positive feedback.
“People come here and they love it,” she said.
Both Oshen Yeppoon and Villa Mar Colina will continue operating under their respective names but will have crossover support with staffing and overflow bookings where required.
“We would like to thank the entire Capricorn Coast community for your ongoing support of our work,” Ms Stokje said.
“We truly live in paradise and Will and I are so very grateful each day to have been given the opportunities we have.”
Capricorn Enterprise chief executive officer Mary Carroll congratulated Andrea and Will Stokje on their expansion and was thrilled to see local operators continuing to invest in the destination.
“Since the year 2000 when opened by respected local developer Rob Carr, Villa Mar Colina has stood tall on the hill in Yeppoon’s CBD, providing spectacular views to visitors from right across the world,” Ms Carroll said.
“This property has maintained its quality over the years and has greeted a number of VIPs including television celebrities and international tourism trade.
“We are looking forward to supporting Andrea and Will with their new venture and congratulate them in increasing their room stock which is key in growing their business for which they have worked so very hard.”
