THE five-bedroom Queenslander high on The Range could set a $2 million-plus house sale record for Rockhampton.

IT'S known as “The Legend”, dedicated to former rugby league great Chris “Choppy” Close.

The five-bedroom Queenslander high on The Range will always be remembered as a family home for Choppy, but could set a $2 million-plus house sale record for Rockhampton.

One of Rocky's best homes sits just a few kilometres from where a home sold this week for $35,000.

The five-bedroom, four-bathroom, classic gable in Denham Street was an 18-month project Choppy and his wife Dianne put their heart and soul into restoring before they moved to the Gold Coast with their three children at the end of 2009.

“My wife is the real hero. She picked all the finishes and the functionality of it,” Choppy said yesterday.

“We spent a lot of money and time to make it first class. But regardless of this, it's a private home you can really fall in love with and get lost in.”

The home has been raised and re-stumped and features a fully self-contained detached apartment with kitchenette, two full kitchens with beautiful granite bench tops, a massive covered deck overlooking a heated lap pool and spa, a private landscape oasis, CCTV security throughout and a separate downstairs living area with two bedrooms, a bathroom, laundry, kitchen and bar.

“We definitely spent a lot of time at the bar,” Choppy said with a laugh.

He said the downstairs area, which is still covered with his sporting memorabilia, was designed as a retreat for his two daughters.

“We built two bedrooms with walk-in robes and a bathroom so the girls had privacy and they could have their friends over,” he said.

Choppy, who used to own the Lionleigh Hotel in Rockhampton, said they couldn't have created their project without the dedication of their building and draftsman team and good mates Keith Broadhurst and Gill Kerr.

“They really put their heart and soul into it.”

He said the original touches of the home, which have been restored, were dedicated to prominent businessman Dick MacNevin, a previous owner of the home.

Professionals Livingston & Molloy Real Estate selling agent Pat Green said the one-of-a-kind family home, which is for sale by expression of interest, had been on the market for only two weeks.

Noel Livingston said 10 Rudd Street on The Range had set the latest record, but they were expecting Choppy's property to smash this.

“We expect it to sell in excess of $2 million,” he said.
