An architecturally designed home on the Capricorn Coast, appropriately named Eagle’s Nest, is turning heads with demand for architectural projects on the rise in the region.
Eagle’s Nest Residence, located along Oceana Crescent in Lammermoor, was designed in collaboration by award-winning local contractors DR Moore Constructions Pty Ltd and local architecture studio Design+Architecture.
Senior architect at Design+Architecture Colin Strydom said the residential project was for a local couple looking at scaling and settling down.
“It’s a great site and boasts one of the best views you can get in the Yeppoon area,” Mr Strydom said.
“The homeowners fell in love with the views the site offers and approached DR Moore Constructions and us in a design and construct format to assist with a stress free, low maintenance and sustainable house.
“The homeowners want to come home and relax, with free time on the weekends instead of ongoing house maintenance.
“We made the best use of the views and at the same time creating total privacy for all areas.
“Sustainability was a key factor for the design approach … from the small footprint right to the material choices. For example, the house is totally clad in Colorbond sheeting for maintenance reasons.
“The dark exterior palette blends seamlessly into the background of the hill, being humble and majestic all at the same time.
“It’s a standard three bedroom house but has a well thought designed layout including direct entry access from the carport.”
He said construction of the home was recently completed with “much love and care” by DR Moore Constructions.
DR Moore Constructions and Design+Architecture have worked collaboratively together on a number of projects including the multi award-winning project and 2020 Central Queensland Master Builders House of the Year Spyglasses Residence in Pacific Heights.
DR Moore Constructions commented, “We are very passionate about the design and build service of our business and believe it is a more efficient and simplified working model. The builder working with the architect from the initial design phase to tailor each project to the clients’ requirements and budget”.
Mr Strydom said the house was strategically placed on a raised platform with minimal disruption to the extensive sloped site, the idea of working with the site instead of against.
Design+Architecture previously designed the Treetop Boardwalk on Mount Archer and applied a similar raised platform approach.
“You respect the land, you acknowledge the slope and then you work with it instead of trying to reshape or cut/fill,” Mr Strydom said.
Design+Architecture has been part of the community for the last nine years with the emphasis to provide unique and practical designs.
“The main difference between what we do, and others is working collaboratively and focusing on the creating experience,” Mr Strydom said.
“We provide specialised and unique solutions and collaborate with clients and builders who require individuality and a point of difference.
“The market for properly designed residential homes are growing on the Capricorn Coast as homeowners are looking for bespoke solutions with emphasis on sustainability and small footprint living.”
