A young woman has been charged after a 61-year-old taxi driver suffered serious injuries following an alleged assault in the early hours of Thursday morning.
About 3am Thursday two women were being driven by the man in a taxi when they allegedly became verbally abusive.
They were asked to exit the taxi on Fitzroy Street near George Street.
Police allege a 20-year-old Berserker woman then repeatedly assaulted the taxi driver from The Range.
He suffered facial fractures and a broken leg.
It is further alleged cash and personal possessions were taken from the taxi during the alleged assault.
Police provided first aid to the man before he was taken to Rockhampton Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Officers patrolled the area where they immediately found the 20-year-old woman who was taken into custody.
The young Berserker woman was charged with one count of grievous bodily harm and was expected to face court Thursday afternoon.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with police appealing for anyone who may have information, CCTV or dashcam footage to contact them.
