Man sentenced at Gladstone after trashing house in DV incident

Shirtless and viewing YouTube videos on the couch while he waited for his dinner, a Qld man was asked to watch the children while his partner cleaned. His reaction was so extreme, police had to intervene.

When police arrived at a Gladstone home they saw shirtless man, “storming out of the house”.

It was just after 4pm when they had received the domestic violence callout.

Police spoke to the aggrieved woman who said she’d asked the man to look after the kids while she cleaned up.

She said the children started to fuss but the man just continued to play on his phone.

The woman again asked him to take care of the kids, but instead he started looking for his laptop - pulling everything out of the cupboards and “trashing” the garage in the process.

He then yelled at the woman, calling her “a c**t”.

When police questioned the man, he told them he’d been sitting on the couch watching YouTube videos and waiting for dinner to be cooked when the woman turned off the Wi-Fi and asked him to look after the kids.

He said that was when he started pulling things out of the cupboard, looking for his laptop, “and throwing things around, making a mess.”

He admitted he called the woman “a c**t.”

The 26-year-old, who by law cannot be named, accepted that version of events in Gladstone Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to contravening a domestic violence order (aggravated offence) during the November 5 outburst.

The man had previous domestic violence offending on his two-page criminal history.

Solicitor Stephen White said the man was a father and he was employed full-time.

“He is extremely remorseful for his actions,” Mr White said.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined the man $1000 and a conviction was recorded.
