Woman throws brick through car windscreen in Rockhampton

A Biloela court has heard about a domestic violence incident in Rockhampton where a woman threw a brick through a car windscreen while her partner was in the vehicle.

A Central Queensland court has heard a domestic violence case where a woman threw a brick through a car windscreen while her partner was in the vehicle.

The 24-year-old woman, who by law cannot be named, pleaded guilty in Biloela Magistrates Court on April 12 to contravening a domestic violence order.

Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd said on December 12 last year, police attended a Rockhampton house in relation to a domestic disturbance.

Mr Boyd said police spoke to the woman at the front of the residence and she said she’d had an argument with the aggrieved over “having no money for cigarettes.”

Mr Boyd said the argument had escalated to both the woman and the man yelling and shouting.

The court heard the man got into a vehicle which was co-jointly owned by the couple, and he started reversing down the driveway when the woman got behind it.

“(The woman) positioned herself between the vehicle and said: ‘Are you going to run me over?’” Mr Boyd said.

The prosecutor said the woman then moved from behind the car, picked up a brick and threw it at the vehicle, smashing the windscreen.

The court heard the woman then picked up another item and threw it at the driver’s side of the car, but no apparent damage was caused by that.

The court was told the woman had previous domestic violence offending on her history.

Solicitor Bianca Wieland said the woman was a stay-at-home mother who had been diagnosed with depression, for which she was on medication.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale placed the woman on six months’ probation.

No conviction was recorded.
