A man wanted on an arrest warrant handed himself in to Central Queensland police with drugs and drug items in his clothing.

Jie James Wathen, 28, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on December 15 to possessing methamphetamine and drug utensils.

Police prosecutor Stacey Bain said that on November 24, Wathen went to Yeppoon Police Station where he was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Ms Bain said that during a search of Wathen, police found a gold cone piece which smelt of cannabis in a pocket of his jeans.

Police also found a second cone piece and Wathen was in possession of a clip-seal bag which contained 0.6g of methamphetamine.

The court heard Wathen had previous drug offending on his criminal history and he was last before the court less than a month prior where he received probation.

Solicitor Stephanie Nicholas said Wathen was a father of one who was receiving Jobseeker Allowance.

“He actually handed himself in to police that morning on a warrant,” Ms Nicholas said.

“And he was caught with these items on him.”

Ms Nicholas said Wathen had engaged with Lives Lived Well (drug rehab).

Magistrate Cameron Press placed Wathen on 11 months’ probation to run concurrently with his previous order.

No conviction was recorded.
