Ice age: Moment police bust 'multi-tiered' drug syndicate

After police intercepted a vehicle in Rockhampton’s CBD, one of the passengers was caught with two bags of methamphetamine hidden in her bra.

Vanessa Jane Quigley, 48, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 22 to possessing dangerous drugs.

The court heard that on July 18 at 9pm, police were conducting patrols on Alma Street when they followed a car for a short period.

The vehicle stopped briefly and then as police pulled in behind it, the driver kept driving.

Police then activated lights and sirens to make an intercept.

Police conducted a licence check on the male driver and Quigley, the front passenger, was subject to a pat-down search.

During that search, two bags were found in Quigley’s bra containing 0.8g of methamphetamine.

The court heard that Quigley had drug offending on her history from 2015.

Quigley’s solicitor Samantha Legrady said Quigley was employed part-time and she was hoping to get a job at the mines.

Magistrate Cameron Press had some advice for Quigley before issuing penalty.

“You want to pursue a different career, a different employment, well unless you get on top of this issue, it’s not going to happen,” he said.

“And if it does, you’re not going to hold a job down, right.

“So you’ve got every incentive here to go and do something about this.”

Mr Press placed Quigley on nine months’ probation with conditions including drug counselling.

No conviction was recorded.
