Clynt Frederick Ellis, 47, has been charged with one count of causing grievous bodily harm after an alleged stabbing assault in Allenstown on March 6, 2023.

A man who allegedly stabbed another in a Rockhampton street is accused of taunting his alleged victim, telling him “I’m going to kill you. If you want to die, I’m going to stab you now”.

The alleged taunts were heard during a bail application for Clynt Frederick Ellis, 47, who has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm after allegedly stabbing a man in the stomach during an altercation between two groups of people.

The alleged incident happened on the corner of Derby and Patrick streets, Allenstown, on March 6 about 8.40pm.

Magistrate Cameron Press told the court: “It’s alleged that he stabbed a victim stating ‘I’m going to kill you. If you want to die I’m going to do it now.”

He said it was alleged Mr Ellis then pulled his arm back before making a stabbing motion towards the victim and saying “you’ve just been stabbed”.

“It’s alleged the defendant then taunted the victim, moving the knife between hands,” Mr Press told the court.

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said Mr Ellis, who wanted to be bailed to the Sunshine Coast, was intoxicated at the time of the alleged incident.

Speaking outside court on Tuesday, Rockhampton Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Kevin Mawdsley said police had taken two men into custody in relation into the alleged incident.

He said there were multiple calls to emergency services.

“It appears there may be some sort of dispute happening in the background between the offender and his associates and the people who live in the street where the incident occurred,” he alleged.

Mr Press said it was alleged the blade of the knife was five to 10 centimetres long.

Police prosecutor Clancy Fox said given Mr Ellis’ criminal record and the current allegations, he was facing a four to five year prison term if convicted.

“He has a concerning history of violence,” he said.

The court heard Mr Ellis had convictions for violence, drug offences, breaching bail and breaching court orders.

Mr Press refused Mr Ellis bail, pointing to his past of breaching bail and a risk of failing to appear due to facing a large prison term.

Mr Ellis was remanded in custody, a brief of evidence was ordered and his case was adjourned to May 3.
