Scott William Copland, Steven Maurice Risk and Rebecca Rose Lewis busted drug-driving

Methamphetamines, marijuana and booze continue to be a dangerous risk Central Queensland motorists are willing to take. Here’s some of the latest offenders who were busted.

Here are some of the motorists who pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court recently to their offending on the roads.

Scott William Copland was intercepted driving with marijuana and methamphetamine in his system on Alma Street, Rockhampton, on April 15, 2022. He told police he had previously smoked two joints. Copland told the court: “It was a stupid mistake.” He said he had smoked a very small amount a few nights prior and did not think it would still be in his system. Copland told the court he lived “out in the bush” and only came to town once a fortnight to go shopping. He was disqualified from driving for one month and fined $350.

Steven Maurice Risk, 64, had marijuana in his system when he was intercepted driving on East Street, Rockhampton, on April 18. He told police he had smoked a joint recently. Risk had a drink-driving conviction from 2017 on his traffic record. He was disqualified from driving for three months for the drug-driving offence and fined $550.

Whitney Ann Louise Wallace, 36, was intercepted driving on Elphinstone Street, Berserker, on April 17 and checks revealed her licence had been suspended by the State Penalties Enforcement Registry from March 11, 2022. Defence lawyer Brendon Gimbert said his client knew she had SPER debts but had not organised a payment plan. Wallace was disqualified from driving for one month and fined $300.

Paden Albert Cameron, 24, had a blood-alcohol content (BAC) reading of .056 when he was intercepted driving along Glenmore Road, Rockhampton, on April 30 at 7.58am. Cameron pleaded guilty to the single drink-driving charge in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on June 7. Police prosecutor Senior Constable Sarah Rowe said Cameron, who was the holder of a probationary licence, told police he had consumed a number of beers. Defence lawyer Tim Neville said his client had consumed those drinks the previous day and would not have driven if he knew he had alcohol in his system. Cameron was fined $600 and disqualified from driving for four months.

Rebecca Rose Lewis, 30, had marijuana in her system when she was intercepted driving along West Street, Allenstown, on April 5 at 4.56pm. Lewis pleaded guilty to the single drug-driving charge in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on June 7. Police prosecutor Senior Constable Sarah Rowe said Lewis had smoked three cones of marijuana that morning. Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said her client knew she had a problem and was seeking help. Lewis was fined $500 and disqualified from driving for three months.
