Rockhampton motorists face court for drink, drug and unlicensed driving

A number of motorists have been convicted in Rockhampton Magistrates Court recently for drink driving, drug driving or unlicensed driving. SEE THE LIST.

A number of motorists have been convicted in Rockhampton Magistrates Court recently for drink driving, drug driving or unlicensed driving.

Paul Anthony Bushell, 40

Bushell was unlicensed when he was intercepted driving along the Bruce Highway at Marlborough on September 10 at 10.32am.

Bushell pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 26 to one count each of driving without a licence and disobeying the speed limit.

Police prosecutor Sergeant David Longhurst said Bushell, who worked as a crane operator at the Clarke Creek Wind Farm, was clocked driving at 114 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

Bushell was fined $614.

Traffic convictions were recorded.

Dale Andrew Sheppard, 33

Sheppard had a blood-alcohol-content (BAC) reading of .052 when he was intercepted driving along Exhibition Rd, Rockhampton, on June 19 about 3.15pm.

Sheppard pleaded guilty to the single drink driving charge in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 27.

Police prosecutor Brendon Selic said Sheppard told police he had consumed six or seven Great Northern beers while playing golf throughout the morning.

Sheppard was fined $400 and disqualified from driving for two months with a traffic conviction recorded.

Tristan Paul Jarvis, 39

Jarvis had a State Penalties Enforcement Registry (SPER) debt when he was intercepted driving along Richardson Rd, Kawana, on September 12 about 1.20pm.

Jarvis pleaded guilty to the single unlicensed driving charge in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 27.

Police prosecutor Brendon Selic said checks revealed Jarvis‘ driver’s licence was suspended because of the SPER debt from May 5.

Mr Selic said Jarvis told police he was unaware of the suspension.

Jarvis told the court he thought he had his SPER debt paid off.

He was fined $250 and disqualified from driving for one month with a traffic conviction recorded.

Cooper Christine Corbett, 22

Corbett had a BAC of .153 and was involved in a car crash on High St, Rockhampton, on August 21 at 9.50pm.

Corbett pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 27 to one count each of driving without red P plates fitted in the required way, driving UIL, failing to comply with the duties of a driver involved in a crash and give the driver’s required particulars to any other driver involved and keeping a safe distance behind vehicles.

Police prosecutor Brendon Selic said Corbett hit a person’s vehicle from behind when they were stopped at a red traffic light and drove past them when they had pulled over.

Mr Selic said that person contacted police about the crash.

He said police found Corbett sitting in her vehicle in the car park area of a block of units eating KFC.

He said Corbett had glassy eyes, slurred speech and refused to comply with a roadside breath test.

He said she became argumentative and aggressive towards police and was arrested.

Corbett told the court, “If I didn’t have a drinking problem these things wouldn’t be happening”.

“There’s no excuse,” she said.

She was fined $1800 and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Traffic convictions were recorded.

Zachary Fischer Redgrave, 24

Redgrave was demerit point suspended when he was intercepted driving along Farm St, Rockhampton, on August 27 at 10.20am.

Redgrave pleaded guilty to the single unlicensed driving charge in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 27.

Police prosecutor Brendon Selic said checks revealed Redgrave’s driver’s licence was demerit point suspended from August 9 for three months.

Redgrave was fined $400 and disqualified from driving for six months with a traffic conviction recorded.

Mary-Ann Hamilton, 65

Hamilton had marijuana in her system when she was intercepted driving along the Burnett Highway at Bouldercombe on July 17 at 2pm.

Hamilton pleaded guilty to the single drug driving charge in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 27.

Police prosecutor Brendon Selic said Hamilton claimed she had smoked marijuana on the previous evening.

Defence lawyer Pierre Lammersdorf said his client was extremely embarrassed at the predicament she had put herself in.

Hamilton was fined $450 and disqualified from driving for one month with a traffic conviction recorded.

Tyler John Pyne, 24

Pyne had methamphetamine in his system when he was intercepted driving along Moores Creek Rd, Norman Gardens, on August 20 at 5.38pm.

Pyne pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 28 to one count each of drug driving and possessing utensils or pipes that had been used.

Police prosecutor Corey O’Connor said police searched a home in Rockhampton on September 7 about 11am and found a glass pipe in a bedroom.

Mr O’Connor said Pyne told police the glass pipe was his and that he used it to smoke ice.

Pyne was fined $500 and disqualified from driving for one month.

A traffic conviction was recorded, however, a criminal conviction was not recorded.

Shawn Douglas Borresen, 46

Borresen was SPER suspended and had a BAC of .026 when he was intercepted driving along Lakes Creek Rd, Rockhampton, on August 10 at 3.48pm.

Borresen pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 28 to one count each of drink driving and driving without a licence SPER suspended.

Police prosecutor Corey O’Connor said Borresen’s driver’s licence was SPER suspended from February 8 for an indefinite period of time.

Mr O’Connor said Borresen told police he was unaware of the suspension.

He said Borresen also told police he had consumed three schooners of Great Northern beer at the pub and two cans of Great Northern beer at home.

Borresen told the court he paid SPER debt the next day.

“I wouldn’t have been driving if I knew,” he said.

He was fined $400 and disqualified from driving for four months.

Traffic convictions were recorded.

Brenton George Hoare, 28

Hoare was suspended because of his SPER debt when he was intercepted driving along Kent St, Rockhampton, on August 3 about 1.25pm.

Hoare pleaded guilty to the single unlicensed driving charge in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 28.

Police prosecutor Corey O’Connor said checks revealed Hoare’s driver’s licence was SPER suspended from October 26, 2022 for an indefinite period of time.

Mr O’Connor said Hoare told police he was unaware of the suspension.

Hoare was fined $150 and disqualified from driving for one month with a traffic conviction recorded.
