A man who has worked in Central Queensland mines for about 20 years has been busted with grotesque images on his phone.

Grant Julian Rasmussen, 46, had images of pre-pubescent girls carrying out bestiality acts with dogs on his phone when police raided his Gracemere home and his Moura mining work accommodation in April 2011, Rockhampton District Court heard on June 10, 2024.

Crown prosecutor Ryan Minuti said one of the images depicted a young girl with a dog’s penis in her mouth.

He said there were eight images in total.

Defence barrister Jordan Ahlstrand said Rasmussen had seen a clinical psychologist 39 times since October 2019 and did not meet the criteria for any psychological diagnosis.

He said his marriage broke down in 2015.

The court heard Rasmussen was a qualified industrial electrician, had a pilot’s licence and had worked in the mining industry for the past two decades.

He pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child exploitation material and was fined $3000.

Rasmussen had a minor criminal record prior to this offence of an unrelated nature.

No convictions were recorded for this offending.
