A Rockhampton father who is fighting allegations he called his mother and made threats to kill, has applied for bail in Rockhampton Magistrates Court.

The defendant, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, applied for bail in court on June 7 for a charge of contravention of police protection notice.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Sarah Rowe opposed bail being granted to the defendant.

Senior Constable Rowe said the defendant had allegedly made verbal threats over the phone which were “quite serious”.

“Bail should be opposed due to the serious nature of the offence,” she said.

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said her client was contesting the charge.

“The allegations of the threats to harm are contested,” Ms Legrady said.

“I am instructed that did not occur.”

She said the victim was her client’s mother and that it was alleged her client made the threats over the phone.

Magistrate Cameron Press noted the defendant allegedly made threats to kill.

Mr Press said it was alleged the defendant threatened to “cut their throats” in a telephone conversation to his mother.

Ms Legrady said her client had been clean of drugs for five years and if granted bail he would agree to reporting conditions and not attend the town where the victim resided.

Mr Press granted the defendant bail with conditions and adjourned his matter to July 5.
