A woman who was on a suspended sentence attacked another woman’s house in Gladstone with a garden stake, yelling that she was owed $150.

Belinda Jane Gambrill, 38, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on June 7 to one count of wilful damage.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Sarah Rowe said police were called to reports of a woman armed with a stick hitting the side of a woman’s house on Drummer Street, Toolooa, on April 2 at 10.30am.

Senior Constable Rowe said police saw three holes to the front of the house and that the victim told police Gambrill had caused the damage as she had been staying at her house.

She said the victim told police Gambrill was yelling about being owed $150 before she armed herself with a timber garden stake and used it to strike the letter box several times.

Gambrill then struck the external wall of the house, making three holes in the wall, before throwing away the garden stake and kicking the victim’s vehicle with her foot.

Senior Constable Rowe said Gambrill, who had a six-page criminal record, was on a suspended sentence at the time of the offence.

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said her client had been “clean for a couple of months” and offered to pay restitution of a “few hundred dollars” in relation to the damage caused.

Gambrill was ordered to nine months’ probation and to pay $300 restitution with a criminal conviction recorded.

Magistrate Cameron Press extended two suspended sentences that were imposed in a Rockhampton court on November 3, 2021, by two months.
