Rockhampton horse trainer Ricky Vale has been charged with assaulting another trainer at a casino after his horse won this year’s Townsville Cup.
Mr Vale tasted racetrack success when his gelding Namazu claimed the $150,000 feature race at Cluden Park on the afternoon of August 6.
Police allege that on August 6, Ricky John David Vale unlawfully assaulted Timothy Joseph Cook.
In court documents, police allege the offence happened at Hotel-Ville Resort Casino, Sir Leslie Thiess Drive, Townsville.
Police charged Mr Vale with one count of common assault.
Mr Vale’s matter was mentioned in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on November 16 where it was adjourned to December 14.
Both Mr Vale and Mr Cook are licensed thoroughbred trainers based at Rockhampton.
A Queensland Racing Integrity Commission spokesperson said the incident at Townsville on August 6 involving Mr Vale and Mr Cook was not subject to a QRIC stewards inquiry.
“As this incident did not occur at a licensed racing venue, QRIC stewards do not have jurisdiction to investigate,” the QRIC spokesperson said.
