Registered child sex offender used tumblr and Reddit to get his porn kicks

Police have uncovered the alarming social media account names of a convicted child sex offender from Central Queensland. Full details here.

A registered sex offender who had a social media profile named naughtylex had been using the account for years before authorities uncovered it.

Alexander John Doig, 47, who was convicted in Rockhampton District Court in February 2020 of possessing, accessing and distributing child exploitation material, has been committed back to the district court after breaching the suspended sentence.

Doig breached the sentence by failing three times to report social media accounts to authorities as required under Queensland Child Protection Act.

He pleaded guilty to the breach charges in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on October 1.

Police prosecutor Jennifer Leech said detectives attended Doig’s residence on June 26 for a compliance check and uncovered the breaches when they examined his android phone.

She said Doig had an active Reddit account under the user name emotionalskirt4229 with the first known log in on May 27, 2021 and was not reported within seven days as required.

Alexander John Doig pleaded guilty to three counts of failing to report details under the Child Protection Act as a convicted child sex offender.

Ms Leech said police also found he had been using tumblr under username ‘naughtylex’, which he used to create a tumblr page called ‘naughty4eva’ that had the page description of ‘love girls buttholes, anything naughty and dirty, love to chat and trade’.

She said Doig posted adult pornography to that page for his followers to view.

Ms Leech said Doig told police he had used tumblr for about four years and therefore it should have been reported at his initial reporting in March 2020.

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said Doig was a qualified chef who had been working in aged care and studying nursing before he was convicted for possessing and distributing child porn.

She said he now lives at Bungundarra, renovating a house for the owner.

Ms Legrady said Doig did not know Reddit was classified a social media account.

The court heard Doig had been convicted in July for a similar offence.

Doig was fined $1000 for the Reddit and tumblr accounts and convictions were recorded.
