A registered child sex offender has faced a Yeppoon court after he failed to comply with his reporting obligations.
Alexander John Doig, 46, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on Thursday to the offence.
The court heard Doig was required to report on a quarterly basis until February 17, 2025, but he failed to do so on June 1 this year.
Doig subsequently attended the Yeppoon police station where he was interviewed by police.
During that interview he said he had intended to report as required but it had “slipped his mind because he was stressed”.
Doig’s solicitor said Doig, a single man with no children, had now set reminders in his phone.
Doig was originally sentenced for his offending in February last year when he received an 18-month jail term, suspended for three years.
On Thursday, Magistrate Jason Schubert noted Doig had not previously offended in terms of failing to report as required.
“There’s no allegation associated with you failing to report that you presented any direct risk to a child in doing so,” Mr Schubert said.
“You’re in a position Mr Doig, you can’t afford to forget in relation to this.”
Mr Schubert fined Doig $500 and a conviction was recorded.
