The undertaker has been called to Capricornia Correctional Centre for a body.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said police were called to the prison at Etna Creek, north of Rockhampton, at 8.30am on Sunday.
She said one officer was at the scene.
The spokeswoman said it was believed the person died of natural causes.
A Queensland Corrective Services spokesman confirmed the death of a prisoner, 45, at the Capricornia Correctional Centre this morning “after a suspected medical episode”.
“QCS will assist Queensland Police in preparing a report for the coroner,” the spokesman said.
“This is standard practice for all deaths in custody.
“Support is being offered to the responding officers and their colleagues.”
