A young man has been jailed after breaking into homes, including one where the owner was sound asleep in bed.
Norris Frederick Jerome Blair, 22, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to a number of offences including break and enter, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and obstructing police.
The court heard Blair went to a home at Pacific Heights on November 14 last year, where he and three others entered the property through a sliding door.
A large collection of collector rum bottles were stolen as were an iPad, jewellery and laptops - with the trio using a bag belonging to the victim to put the goods in.
Blair was seen on CCTV cameras, from a neighbouring property, entering and leaving the address with the group.
On November 17, Blair was arrested and given a notice to appear in court.
But being picked up the first time didn’t stop his offending.
Just two days later, in the early hours of November 19, Blair and co-offenders broke into a Rockhampton home while the homeowner was asleep in bed.
Blair and the co-offenders entered the house through a sliding door and found car keys on a hook.
The group went into the garage and got in the victim’s car, a Mazda CX-3.
Blair and the group used the car throughout Rockhampton, Banana and Yeppoon.
On November 20 a blue Holden colorado was stolen from Blackwater, and Blair was seen to be an occupant of the car two days later in Rockhampton.
On November 22 police saw Blair run from that vehicle to another stolen car, which was driven at speed.
Blair was seen with a group of people where he was told by police he was under arrest before he ran off.
The court heard Blair was born in Maryborough and went to school in Woorabinda.
It was said in court the offending came about after Blair had gotten into a fight with his girlfriend and he fell into an old crowd of friends.
Blair received a head sentence of 21 months imprisonment and will be released on parole on June 29.
Eighty days of presentence custody was declared as time already served.
