Name and shame: drug driver busted twice in one month

Drink-drivers and drug-drivers recently convicted in Rockhampton Magistrates Court:

Gene Louse Richardson had four or five stubbies in five hours before being intercepted driving on Lawrie Street, Gracemere, on May 8 about 10pm with a blood-alcohol content reading of .054. He was disqualified from driving for one month and fined $300.

Lewis Mark Everaarts had methamphetamines in his system when he was intercepted driving on Moores Creek Rd, Parkhurst, about 3.20pm on April 2. He was disqualified from driving for three months and fined $800.

Phoenix Jay Brown had a BAC of .108 when he was intercepted driving on Norman Road about 11.30pm on June 4. The court heard Brown immediately exited the vehicle and ran around to the passenger side door, telling police he was nervous, had been drinking with a mate and decided to drive the car for a lap around the block. Brown was disqualified from driving for three months and fined $900.

Glen Andrew Hartas had drugs in his system when he was intercepted driving on Moores Creek Road, Park Avenue, on April 2. He made admissions to police about recent drug use. Hartas, who had been convicted of drug-drive offence in 2019 and drink-drive almost three times the legal limit in 2017, was disqualified from driving for seven months and fined $700.

Jesse James Paul Osborne, 22, was intercepted drug-driving twice in a month. He was first intercepted on Glenmore Road with meth in his system on April 15. Osborne (pictured) was again intercepted driving with meth in his system on Johnson Road, Gracemere, on May 11. The court heard Osborne, a father of two, had been using meth for three or four years and had stopped using the drug for one month prior to appearing in court. Osborne was fined $1000 and disqualified from driving for five months.

Brian Ralph Doyle had meth in his system when he was intercepted driving in Rockhampton on May 6. Defence lawyer Rebecca Winning said Doyle had a long-standing issue with drugs and had decreased his use significantly in the past few years. The court heard the most recent drug offence on his criminal record was from 2016 and last drug-drive was three years ago. Doyle was placed on probation for 12 months and disqualified from driving for seven months.

Amanda Jayne Herde, 36, had a BAC of .091 when she was intercepted driving on Bowen Street, Nebo, on May 23. She told police she had several mid-high strength beers the night before with her last beer consumed by 2am. Herde said she was driving home to Rockhampton when she was intercepted. Herde told the court she worked for Ergon Energy in a customer service role and had four children. The court heard she was convicted of drink-driving in 2017. Herde was disqualified from driving for six months and fined $750 for this year’s offence.

Daniel John Nicholson had marijuana in his system when he was intercepted driving on Moores Creek Road on May 1. He was also in possession of seven grams of marijuana. The court heard Nicholson was convicted in 2016 of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. Nicholson was urged to get help for his drug use and mental health issues. He was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined $500 for the 2021 offence.

Tahliya Maree Carmel Mccrory, 29, had meth in her system when she was intercepted driving on Rockonia Road, Koongal, on April 29. She made admissions to recent drug use. Defence lawyer Rebecca Harris said Mccrory was a mother of three and had attended Drug Arm for six months. She was disqualified from driving for four months and fined $350.

Benjamin Joseph Hall had a BAC of .108 when he was intercepted driving on Davis Street, Allenstown, on June 17, after police watched him drive out of the rear carpark of the Allenstown Hotel. Hall told police he had drank about eight bourbon and cokes and had his last at 12.40am. Hall told the court he has a job and three children with one living in Mackay. Hall was disqualified from driving for four months and fined $650.
