Murder accused Hamid Hussein has matter mentioned in Rockhampton Magistrates Court

A man charged with murder following an alleged assault at a North Rockhampton property last year has had his matter mentioned in court. Here’s what happened.

A man accused of murdering a 32-year-old man at a North Rockhampton property in February last year has had his matter mentioned in court.

Hamid Hussein, 35, was charged with murder after a man died of severe head injuries in February, 2021.

It is alleged the 32-year-old man sustained critical injuries as a result of an alleged assault at a Mackay Street house in the suburb of Lakes Creek, on Thursday, January 28, 2021, shortly before 10pm.

He died in hospital the following Saturday.

It is alleged the man was hit in the head with a wooden chair handle.

Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard on June 2 that Mr Hussein’s legal team would be applying for a grant of funding so body-worn camera footage could be translated, as most of the people in the video were not speaking English.

In March, Mr Hussein had been approved for an expense case grant.

An expensive case grant is approved for cases matching certain criteria, according to the Legal Aid Queensland website, including a brief of evidence having more than 2500 pages of material.

Mr Hussein’s matter was adjourned to July 20.
