A man accused of murder in an assault where a wooden chair handle was used to hit the now deceased in the head had been approved an expense case grant.

A man accused of murder in an assault where a wooden chair handle was used to hit another man in the head has been approved an expense case grant.

Hamid Hussein, 35, was charged with murder after a 32-year-old died from severe head injuries in February 2021.

An expensive case grant is approved for cases matching certain criteria, according to the Legal Aid Queensland website, including a brief of evidence having more than 2500 page of material.

Defence lawyer Mirren Smith informed Rockhampton Magistrates Court of this update on March 2, advising that leading criminal barrister Andrew Hoare had been engaged in the case.

She said Mr Hussein required an interpreter for meetings and they would need four weeks to conference the matter.

It is alleged the 32-year-old man sustained critical injuries as a result of an alleged assault at a Mackay Street, Lakes Creek homes on Thursday, January 28, 2021, shortly before 10pm.

The alleged victim died in hospital on the following Saturday.

It will be alleged one of the men used a wooden chair handle to hit the other man in the head causing significant injuries.

Mr Hussein’s matter was adjourned until April 6.
