The defence team for a man charged with murder over the death of 32-year-old man in 2021 say they are about to brief a barrister ahead of the case being committed to the higher courts.

Hamid Hussein, 35, was charged with murder after a 32-year-old died from severe head injuries in February 2021.

It is alleged the 32-year-old man sustained critical injuries as a result of an alleged assault at a Mackay St, Lakes Creek homes on Thursday, January 28, 2021, shortly before 10pm.

The alleged victim died in hospital on the following Saturday.

It will be alleged one of the men used a wooden chair handle to hit the other man in the head causing significant injuries.

Lawyer Mirren Smith said the autopsy report had been received and a barrister was being briefed ahead of a committal hand-up.

She said they were also waiting on a Legal Aid application, which was lodged November 15, 2021, to be processed.

Mr Hussein’s charge was adjourned until March 2.
