A magistrate has described the actions of a man who smashed his neighbour’s security camera as “rather childish”.

Timothy John Nugent, 43, told his Mount Morgan neighbour: “If you put another one up, I will smash it too”, Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard on June 7.

Police prosecutor Brandon Selic said the neighbour had installed the camera in a tree to observe his work truck.

Sometime between March 1 and 11, 2022, the camera was damaged and the victim ran into Nugent on March 12 which was when Nugent admitting to smashing it.

Nugent was recently sentenced in the district court for assault occasioning bodily harm in relation to the bitter six-year feud with his neighbour, where Nugent punched the man, pushed him to the ground and hit him multiple times in the eye.

The district court heard the 60-year-old neighbour was sitting on his front porch when Nugent got out of his vehicle and started yelling and swearing at him saying, “You faggot paedophile c--t, I’m going to smash you”.

Magistrate Cameron Press described Nugent’s behaviour regarding the camera as “rather childish”.

Nugent pleaded guilty to one count of wilful damage and was fined $700.

A conviction was recorded.
