More than 50 people charged in two days of police operation

A Central Qld man has been given a traffic infringement notice after police found him travelling along a highway allegedly doing 130km/h in a 80km/h zone. VIDEO

More than 50 people have been charged since a multi-level policing operation targeting high-harm offenders began in the Capricornia police district two days ago, on October 16.

A Queensland Police highway patrol officer clocked a motorist allegedly driving 40km/h over the speed limit with a two-month-old in the car as part of Operation Whiskey Legion.

He was allegedly travelling along the Capricorn Highway at Fairy Bower at a speed of 130km/h in a 80km/h zone.

The 32-year-old Wandal man was issued a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40 km/h (Type 2 offence) worth $1,854 and eight demerit points.

There was also a woman in the car with the man and the baby at the time of the incident.

Police have issued 94 traffic infringement notices, 1,096 roadside breath tests, and conducted 31 roadside drug tests conducted.

Since commencing, 57 people have been charged with 147 offences, including six young people on 15 charges.

Police continue to be present at hotspot locations including shopping centres, community events, highways and roads.

Since Wednesday, police have conducted 19 patrols of hotspot areas and engaged with 126 people throughout the community about crime prevention and safety.

Since Operation Whiskey Legion began across the state in April, a total of 3,746 people have been arrested on 9,301 charges.
