A former miner jailed for trafficking drugs in 2020 had been out of prison four months when he was busted with more than 240 grams of methamphetamines worth almost $100,000.

Timothy Clement Beazley, 30, will spend at least the next 10 months in prison and seven years on parole after Supreme Court Justice Graeme Crow sentenced him to an eight-year prison term to run concurrently with his five-year sentence from 2020.

Crown prosecutor Luke Smoothy said police were patrolling Gladstone when they spotted Beazley driving on March 22, 2022 on John Dory Drive.

The Rockhampton resident parked outside a known drug offender’s residence and told police he was in Gladstone to visit his girlfriend and friends.

A police search of the vehicle, which Beazley claimed he purchased a week prior, located 240.277 grams of substance containing 181.777g of pure meth worth $81,000 to $99,000.

Police also located $1810 cash, mobile phones, guns - including a bolt- action shotgun - and 82 rounds of ammunition.

“Police were able to access the defendant’s phone and noted drug related notes and messages,” Mr Smoothy said.

Beazley was “under pressure to pay off drug debts” and agreed to be a drug courier.

He had also been busted drug driving on January 18.

Justice Crow said Beazley’s criminal record indicated he had “certainly been in the grips of drugs for years”.

He said his parole report was “truly troubling”, with the Moura-born former mine worker breaching curfew and failing several drug tests with one test returning positive for cocaine, methamphetamines and prescription medication.

Beazley was referred to Drug Arm but failed to give up his drug use.

Beazley, who has two children, has been diagnosed with substance abuse disorder, gambling disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

He had pleaded guilty on May 15 to one count of possessing more than two grams of a schedule one drug, two of possessing drugs, one of possessing anything used in a crime, two of contravening an order to provide access to electronically stored information, one count each of drug driving, buy or possess S4 or S8 medicines or hazardous poisons, stealing, possessing suspected stolen property, possession of weapons, possession of explosives, possessing property suspected of being used in a drug crime, possessing tainted property and possessing restricted items.

His parole eligibility date was set for March 14, 2024 and he was disqualified from driving for nine months.
