Man ‘thrown to the ground, punched’ in Rockhampton CBD alleged assault

Police raced to the scene of the early morning incident in Rockhampton’s CBD on Sunday where they arrested one of the men involved. Another man was taken to Rockhampton Hospital. Full details here.

A man has been charged following an alleged assault in Rockhampton’s CBD during the early hours of Sunday morning, which resulted in another man being taken to hospital.

Police were called to East Street just after 3am where a man was reportedly injured and bleeding.

An ambulance was also called to the scene.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a man was assessed before being taken to Rockhampton Hospital in a stable condition.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the alleged victim did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

The QPS spokeswoman said the 23-year-old alleged victim had been walking on East St when he was allegedly assaulted by a 31-year-old man.

“He (alleged victim) was allegedly grabbed and thrown to the ground and punched,” the QPS spokeswoman said.

“Police attended the scene and a 31-year-old man was arrested at the scene.”

That man was later charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

He is due to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on March 28.
