A pregnant Capricorn Coast woman has faced court after she threatened to kill the father of her unborn child.

The 18-year-old, who by law cannot be named, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on January 20 to contravening a police protection notice.

The court heard the notice was issued in November last year with the condition the woman be of good behaviour towards the aggrieved and not commit domestic violence against him.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said that about 10.30pm on December 8, police attended a Yeppoon residence where the man (aggrieved) reported a domestic violence incident.

“The aggrieved showed police an audio recording of a phone conversation which occurred on the 7th of December, 2021, at 10.30pm,” Sergeant Ongheen said.

“That conversation was with the defendant about their unborn child.”

Sergeant Ongheen said during the phone call with the man, the woman became agitated and aggressive towards him about his involvement in her pregnancy and the looming custody arrangements for the child.

Sergeant Ongheen said during the conversation, the woman told the man she did not want him to have anything to do with the baby, and that the baby would never be around him or his family.

“The aggrieved was heard in the audio recording giving little response to the defendant,” Sergeant Ongheen said.

“The defendant became further enraged, stating ‘I will f---ing kill you with my own f---ing bare hands. I’ll go to jail so you won’t have her,’ referring to their unborn child.”

Sergeant Ongheen said after the phone call was terminated, the woman continued to harass the man, calling him “in excess of 20 times” in an attempt to speak with him.

On December 20, police went to the woman’s residence and spoke with her.

The woman told police that she did not recall the exact exchange which had occurred between her and the man, but she believed she “probably did say some bad things to him”.

The court heard the woman had no criminal history and the prosecution submitted a fine would be appropriate.

A solicitor said the woman and the man had separated prior to this offence.

The solicitor said the woman had been diagnosed with a medical condition and was on medication for that, and she accepted full responsibility for her actions and was remorseful for them.

Magistrate Jason Schubert noted that the woman had made a threat to kill someone and he said that required a stronger deterrent than a good behaviour order.

Mr Schubert fined the woman $400 and he did not record a conviction.
