Logan Andrew Warren was caught drink-driving in unusual circumstances

The man was trying to be sneaky when he came to the attention of police in a North Rockhampton suburb. Here’s what he was doing wrong when he got caught.

A Rockhampton man’s tactic to hide a fast-food fix from his girlfriend backfired when police caught him drink-driving.

Logan Andrew Warren, 26, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on March 29 to the offence.

Warren was one of many drivers to face either Rockhampton or Yeppoon courts recently for drink-driving offending.

The court heard that on January 30, about 11.58pm, police found Warren sitting in the driver’s seat of a stationary Ford Ranger on Price Avenue, North Rockhampton.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Sarah Rowe said the keys were in the ignition, the engine was running and the headlights were on.

“When questioned (Warren) stated he’d been drinking at a mate’s (place) and was heading home, that he’d pulled over to eat his McDonald’s before driving home to avoid his girlfriend seeing him eating McDonald’s,” Snr Const Rowe said.

After a roadside breath test, Warren returned a blood alcohol reading of .128.

Representing himself in court, Warren addressed Magistrate Cameron Press.

“Your Honour, I just want you to know that it was a silly mistake that I made,” Warren said.

“For the past three months of the licence suspension, it’s made my work life incredibly difficult.

“My work relies on me to drive trucks and work on power lines and as a result that’s made it incredibly difficult - not only for myself but for my workmates, and my partner who has to drive me around.

“But I’m ready to accept whatever you deem as necessary for my stupid mistake.”

Mr Press took into account that Warren had been without his driver’s licence for three months and also the remorse that he demonstrated.

The magistrate fined Warren $700 and disqualified him from driving for five months.
