A man who punched a random person’s car because he was “having a bad day”, causing hundreds of dollars damage, has faced court.

Lochlan Graham Dick, 22, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on September 29 to wilful damage.

Police prosecutor Mirren Smith said on May 22 about 2.31am, Dick approached a Mitsubishi Outlander parked on Anzac Parade in “an agitated and angry state.”

Ms Smith said Dick started punching the front, right-side of the bonnet, causing damage.

She said Dick then became involved in a physical confrontation with an occupant of the vehicle and he was subsequently taken to Yeppoon Hospital for treatment.

When later questioned by police, Dick told them that on the morning of the incident he was “having a bad day”, had separated from his partner, drank too much and punched the bonnet of the car.

The prosecution sought restitution of $542.50 for damage to the vehicle.

The court heard that Dick had no criminal history.

Representing himself in court, Dick was told by acting magistrate Ron Muirhead that the owner of the car would not have been impressed he had damaged it, and it was understandable that Dick was confronted.

Mr Muirhead asked Dick if he knew the owner, and Dick said he didn’t.

“It’s extremely poor behaviour,” Mr Muirhead said.

Mr Muirhead fined Dick $1000 and ordered he pay $542.50 restitution.

No conviction was recorded.
