A young man has been busted arranging for almost 27.5g of methamphetamines to be sent to him via Australia Post.

Kyle Andrew Jaenke, 25, pleaded guilty on May 17 in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton to one count of possessing a dangerous drug in excess of two grams, one of possessing used drug pipes and one of possessing drug utensils.

Crown prosecutor Claire Brtevnik said Jaenke’s offending was discovered during a police operation targeting the distribution of drugs via domestic mail.

She said police intercepted a parcel addressed to Jaenke at the Rockhampton Mail Centre in Berserker on September 10, 2020.

Ms Brtevnik said inside the parcel was a canister labelled Epimuscle.

The canister contained eight clip seal bags containing even amounts of the crystallised substances of methamphetamine.

Ms Brtevnik said the total quantity was 14.939g of pure meth in 27.512g of substance.

Police searched Jaenke’s residence in Kin Kora, Gladstone, and located five used pipes, clip seal bags and digital scales.

“The defendant confessed that he used methamphetamine and was addicted to it,” Ms Brtevnik said.

She said the meth was for Jaenke’s own use.

The court heard he had no criminal record.

Justice Peter Davis said references tendered to the court indicated Jaenke had learning difficulties at school but had employment until falling into addiction.

“The various testimonials now speak of you now being abstinent from drugs,” he said.

“In my view, it is hopefully a one off event born from addiction.”

Justice Davis sentenced Jaenke to 12 months prison with immediate parole release.
