A man who was recently jailed for supplying a woman with 5g of meth for $2500 was back in court for trying to sell a stolen 3x360 laser level on Facebook Marketplace.

Karl Edward Anthony Matheson, 35, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on October 19 to one count each of possessing tainted property, fraud and contravening a requirement of a police officer.

Police prosecutor Tiffany Moras said a number of tools, including a 3x360 laser level, were stolen from a construction site in Allenstown between 4pm on August 19, 2022 and 6.20am on August 22, 2022.

There is no suggestion he stole the items.

Ms Moras said Matheson listed the 3x360 laser level for sale on Facebook Marketplace for $600 on August 23, 2022.

She said a person contacted Matheson about purchasing the laser level and attended an address in Wandal on August 24, 2022 about 10.35am to look at it.

She said the person saw the laser level was the same as the one stolen from the construction site two to three days prior and did not hand over any money.

The court heard Matheson was sentenced to one year and nine months prison, suspended for two years after serving four months, after pleading guilty in Rockhampton District Court recently to one count each of supplying dangerous drugs, possessing anything used in the commission of a crime and possessing property suspected of having been acquired for the purpose of committing a drug offence.

Defence lawyer Ashley Reynolds said given the fact her client didn’t actually obtain the $600 for the stolen laser level and his recent District Court sentence, he could be convicted and not further punished for the offending.

Ms Reynolds said drugs had been her client’s main problem.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale convicted and not further punished Matheson.

Criminal convictions were recorded and the laser level was forfeited.
