A Central Queensland miner who was supporting her dad in court has also ended up before a magistrate after she was caught bringing a knife into the building.

Jaqwui Noelene Marree Tyne, 21, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to possessing a knife in a public place.

Police prosecutor Courtney Brown said Tyne attended Rockhampton Courthouse on September 19 at 12.50pm in support of another person when security searched her bag and found a knife with an 11cm blade.

Ms Brown said police were called and the knife was seized.

She said Tyne told police she carried a knife around everywhere for protection, stating she was quite small.

She also said Tyne further stated the knife was at the bottom of her bag and she had forgot it was in there when she entered the building.

Defence lawyer Rebecca Winning said her client, who was employed as an operator at Central Queensland mine, had come to court that day to support her father.

“She simply did forget she had the knife in her bag,” she said.

“She had no intention to use it or harm anybody.

“She said in the past she has carried for self-protection.”

Tyne was fined $600.

No criminal conviction was recorded and the knife was forfeited.
