Jacob Doevendans busted with ketamine and cocaine at Yeppoon

A man who runs his own business in Central Queensland has been busted with two kinds of “serious drugs” — getting him in trouble not only with the law but also his wife.

A Central Queensland plumber has faced court after police busted him with two “serious” drugs on Boxing Day.

Jacob Jan Doevendans, 30, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on Thursday to two counts of possessing dangerous drugs.

The court heard that about 9.20pm on December 26, Doevendans was on Anzac Parade, Yeppoon, when police busted him with 0.5g of cocaine and 1.7g of ketamine in zip-lock bags in his wallet.

“These are both serious drugs,” police prosecutor Corey O’Connor said.

“Ketamine in particular is often used for insidious purposes.”

Doevendans had no criminal history.

Solicitor Myles Heath said Doevendans was born and raised in the Central Highlands area and completed school in Yeppoon before taking up a role driving trucks in the mines.

“He only did that for about six months before he started a plumbing apprenticeship,” Mr Heath said.

“He completed that apprenticeship and has now been operating his own business as a sole trader for four years.”

Mr Heath said Doevendans was married with a young child.

“Not only is he going to receive a penalty from the court today but he has found himself in enough trouble with his wife (due to the offending) and (it) almost resulted in the breakdown of that relationship.

“And that in itself has been a lesson to him as well.”

Mr Heath said Doevendans instructed he “was not a frequent user of drugs”.

“And on this particular occasion he (Doevendans) was heavily intoxicated and perhaps had some people of ill influence around him at the time.”

Magistrate Lance Rundle fined Doevendans $600 and no conviction was recorded.
