A young woman has been warned of the impacts stealing from businesses can have on small communities after she repeatedly stole from a grocery store.

Imogen Alyssa Ramm, 20, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Thursday to seven counts of stealing.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Darrell Dalton told the court Ramm went into the FoodWorks store in Monto a number of times between October 11 and 16 where she stole grocery items.

Sgt Dalton told the court while Ramm was in the store she would stuff items down the front of her clothes or store them under a pram.

The court heard on one occasion Ramm went into the small business and put some items under the pram, but purchased a soft drink.

She then left the store without paying for the items under the pram.

Sgt Dalton said Ramm participated in an interview with police on November 15 where she made full admissions to the offending.

Ramm’s lawyer Samantha Legrady told the court at the time of the offending Ramm and the people she was living with didn’t always have money for food.

She said during the offending period Ramm was going through a “bad time” in her life and was in a toxic relationship.

Ms Legrady told the court Ramm had made “significant” changes in her life and had found work in Rockhampton.

Magistrate Grace Kahlert took into account Ramm’s plea of guilty.

Ms Kahlert told Ramm that stealing from small businesses could have “significant consequences” including the business owners questioning the viability of keeping their doors open.

Ramm was fined $500 and a conviction was not recorded.
