A woman in her 20s is fighting for her life after a crash at Dumpy Creek on Friday night.

It’s understood the vehicle left the road and landed in a ditch on the Leichhardt Highway just after 7pm, prompting a large emergency response.

Paramedics treated six people at the scene.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said they also had two crews attend.

“There were a number of people in that vehicle and there was one entrapment,” the spokesman said.

“Our crews got into action with hydraulic equipment and extricated that one person that was trapped.”

The driver, a young woman who reportedly suffered a medical episode leading to the crash, sustained serious chest and abdominal injuries.

She was flown to Rockhampton Hospital in a critical condition.

A man in his 50s, who was trapped in the vehicle, sustained limb injuries and was taken to the same hospital by road in a stable condition.

Four other occupants, a teenage girl, a man in his 20s, a man in his 30s, and an infant, escaped with minor or no injuries.

They were also taken to Rockhampton Hospital as a precaution and were all in stable conditions.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said one lane was closed on the highway and was reopened at about 10pm.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
