A teenager busted snorting cocaine with mates at a public multi-level carpark at Yeppoon, has faced court.

Harrison James Tyler, 18, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on October 6 to cocaine possession and possessing currency used to consume a dangerous drug.

The court heard that on September 7 at 11.35pm, police went to the second level of the Yeppoon Town Centre Car Park in Hill Street, where they saw a vehicle parked next to a stairwell.

“Police stopped and heard multiple male voices coming from the stairwell,” Police Prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said.

Sgt Ongheen said when police entered the stairwell they saw four males, one being Tyler, standing around a handrail.

“Police spoke with them - they appeared nervous,” Sgt Ongheen said.

“(Their) eyes and demeanour were indicative of drug use.”

Sgt Ongheen said after the men were detained, Tyler told police that he was in possession of cocaine.

Police seized three clip-seal bags of cocaine that were in Tyler’s wallet.

In relation to the possessing currency used to consume a dangerous drug charge, Sgt Ongheen said police also found Tyler with a rolled-up $10 note which had a rubber band around it.

That note was coated in cocaine, the court heard.

Sgt Ongheen said Tyler claimed ownership of the $10 note and told police he had used it to consume cocaine.

The court heard that Tyler had no criminal history.

Solicitor Krissy Cummins said Tyler worked in the concreting industry and she tendered two references to the court for her client.

“Your Honour, my client had experimented with drugs - previously he was dating a girlfriend that got him off the drugs, he tells me,” Ms Cummins said.

“And the week before this incident, she had broken up with him.

“He instructs that the charges are a wake-up call, he’s got himself back on track.”

Magistrate Cameron Press fined Tyler $900, did not record a conviction, and gave him a final message.

“If you want your life to go downhill, spiral very quickly downhill, then just keep using drugs, Sir,” he said.

“Because that’s what happens - each and every time.

“Sir, I hope you’ve learnt a lesson with this.”
