A teenager has been charged after he allegedly tried to steal an elderly woman’s car at knifepoint.
It will be alleged the 19-year-old from Gracemere approached the 70-year-old woman while he was armed with a knife about 10am on August 7.
The man, who was not known to the woman, demanded her vehicle.
An altercation between the pair ensued before a bystander approached to help the woman.
The 70-year-old woman sustained minor injuries.
The 19-year-old then allegedly fled the scene before he was found and arrested by police on Barry St in Gracemere.
He has since been charged with one count of attempted armed robbery with using/threatening violence while armed.
Detective Acting Inspector Luke Peachey from Rockhampton Police praised members of the community for providing immediate care to the elderly woman.
“In this instance it was a courageous effort from several members of the public and helped investigators in bringing this (alleged) offender to justice,” he said.
“These efforts, combined with a quick response from responding officers in Gracemere resulted in the quick arrest of the man for such a serious offence against an elderly woman.”
