Gladstone’s Garry Milsom Patrick Jeynes stashed meth in freezer

At 63, this lifelong worker should be eyeing retirement. Instead, the meth-using former truck driver and site supervisor who claims he was “highly functional” on the job, is busy being sent back to jail.

A long-term drug addict, caught with ice of a different kind in his freezer, claims he has always been employed and “fully functioning” at work while using one gram of meth per day.

Garry Milsom Patrick Jeynes, 63, was sentenced in Rockhampton Supreme Court this week.

He had been busted possessing 12.025 grams of pure meth in 15.96g of substance and $29,360 cash only three months into a parole order and five months after being placed on bail for possessing stolen and suspected stolen property.

The court heard he’d stashed the meth in the ice compartment of his freezer in Cryovac bags.

Jeynes had previously been sentenced in April 2022 for possessing meth, marijuana and instructions for producing various dangerous drugs.

He received a 20-month prison term with immediate parole but continued using drugs and was busted again with the freezer stash on July 1, 2022.

Police, during a search of Jeynes’s Gladstone residence on January 1, 2022, located one gram of meth, stolen batteries worth $370-$400 and a battery powered drill suspected of having been stolen.

He was released on bail on January 13.

Defence barrister Jordan Ahlstrand said at the time of the freezer bust, Jeynes was injecting 10 points (one gram) of meth per day and claimed “he was highly functional (and) has always maintained employment”.

The court heard Jeynes, who was born in Cheltenham in England and moved to Australia when he was 15, worked in a supervisor position at “a major industrial site in Gladstone” for 13 years, along with working as truck driver and mechanic.

Justice Graeme Crow said reports indicated Jeynes was reluctant to engage in drug rehabilitation while on parole having been referred to Drug Arm but never attending sessions despite many contact attempts by the service.

His criminal record, which dated back to 1996, had 19 entries – nine of which were drug convictions since 2017.

He pleaded guilty on May 17 to one count of possessing more than two grams of a schedule one drug and seven summary offences.

Jeynes was sentenced to 2.5 years prison, cumulative on his April 2022 sentence, with parole eligibility on August 16, 2023.
