A number of people were recently convicted in Rockhampton Magistrates Court for possessing dangerous drugs or drug paraphernalia.

A Rockhampton man was found with a glass pipe that he used to smoke methamphetamine with after police searched him at Raffles Hotel.

Brian Darren Zerafa entered a plea of guilty in writing to one count of possessing utensils or pipes that had been used.

Zerafa was not present in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 28 when his matter was dealt with.

Police prosecutor Sarah Rowe said police searched Zerafa, who was at Raffles Hotel in North Rockhampton about 3.40am on June 21.

Ms Rowe said inside Zerafa’s bag police found a small pencil case, which contained a glass pipe with a plastic bottle attachment with remnants of a white crystal substance and a plastic scoop.

She said Zerafa told police the items were his and that he used the glass pipe to smoke meth.

Zerafa was fined $250 with no criminal conviction recorded.

A police search uncovered less than one gram of methamphetamine in the wallet of an Aurizon railway contractor, who had a State Penalties Enforcement Registry debt of more than $4000 and had not made a payment, a court has heard.

Kailu Zorangetano George, 26, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count each of contravene direction or requirement of police and possessing dangerous drugs.

Police prosecutor Sarah Rowe said police intercepted a vehicle about 12.30am on June 13 and detained three men, including George, for a search in relation to dangerous drugs.

Ms Rowe said George told police he had some “rock” in his wallet, which was on the rear seat of the vehicle.

She said police searched the wallet and found a clip seal bag containing meth, which weighed 0.3g.

She said George told police the meth was his and that he was given a point earlier in the day and had smoked half of it earlier that evening.

She said George was issued with a notice, requiring him to attend Rockhampton Watchhouse to provide his identifying particulars within seven days, which he failed to do.

She said George was arrested at his residence in relation to other matters on July 17 and told police he was working away at the time and could not contact police.

Defence lawyer Brendon Selic said his client worked as a railway contractor with Aurizon and that was why he was unable to provide his identifying particulars.

Mr Selic argued that it was a small amount of drugs and that his client had co-operated with police.

The court heard George owed SPER $4162 and had not made a payment.

George was ordered to probation for 10 months with criminal convictions recorded.

Police prosecutor Sarah Rowe said the drug dog singled out Mcnamara by stopping and sitting in front of him in the queue to enter Zodiac Nightclub about 12am on July 11.

Ms Rowe said Mcnamara was detained for a search.

She said Mcnamara told police he had cocaine, which was found in a clip seal bag in his wallet and weighed 0.74g.

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said her client, who worked as an electrician, had purchased the drug while drunk.

Mcnamara was sentenced to a six-month good behaviour bond with $600 recognisance and drug diversion.

No criminal conviction was recorded.

A young Central Queensland man had his marijuana and drug utensils seized by police after they searched a home in Gracemere.

Edraki Zackery Megat, 20, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 28 to one count each of possessing dangerous drugs and possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with a drug offence.

Police prosecutor Sarah Rowe said police attended an address on Stewart Street, Gracemere, about 6.15pm on July 6 and, after smelling burnt marijuana, searched the home in relation to dangerous drugs.

Ms Rowe said police found Megat inside a bedroom that had been converted into a gaming room.

She said police searched the room and found a bowl containing 2g of chopped marijuana, a glass jar containing a marijuana stem, and a sandwich bag with 1g of marijuana.

She said police also found an electric grinder, manual grinder, set of digital scales, and a glass pipe belonging to a bong.

She said the items were seized.

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said her client accepted the items were his and that she had provided him advice on drugs.

Megat was sentenced to a six-month good behaviour bond with $750 recognisance and drug diversion.

No criminal convictions were recorded.

Police found a man in possession of marijuana after they saw two other men walk towards a car parked at the rear of the Berserker Tavern in North Rockhampton.

Tyron Joe Auda, 32, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 28 to one count each of possessing dangerous drugs and possessing utensils or pipes that had been used.

Police prosecutor Sarah Rowe said detectives from Rockhampton’s CIB had driven into the carpark of the Berserker Tavern in an unmarked police vehicle about 7.55pm on July 10 and saw two men leave the pub and walk towards a vehicle that was parked at the rear of the carpark.

Ms Rowe said the two men saw the unmarked police vehicle and diverted their walking path away from the parked vehicle.
