A Rockhampton father who was part of an anti-youth-crime rally jumped the fence of a home that had been tipped as a residence of an alleged offender, causing the occupants to move house.

Daniel William White, 42, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 4 to one count of trespass.

Police prosecutor Corey O’Connor said community members gathered at Central Park in Rockhampton on May 7 to protest property and youth crime in the town.

Mr O’Connor said a large group of people involved in the meeting attended an address in Norman Gardens about 3pm in an attempt to locate a suspect involved in offending.

He said numerous persons went on the front yard of the home and begun calling the occupants to come out.

He said four people, including White, scaled the side fence of the home to gain access to the rear yard, walked around the back of the home before returning to the front of the property.

“30–40 community members congregated on the front lawn,” he said.

“The victim has moved house as a result of this incident.”

Defence lawyer Tim Neville said his client, who was a father of three and builder, attended the public meeting on May 7.

“He didn’t have intentions at the time to trespass, harass or cause issue,” he said.

Mr Neville said his client did enter the backyard of the home and knocked on the back door before coming back to the front of the property.

White was fined $650 with no criminal conviction recorded.
